Contemporary Fine Art
Fine Art
"Fine" has no connection with the quality of the artwork but is a term used to define its difference from applied art. Traditionally painting and sculpture as opposed to craft work – ie ceramics, textiles etc. I think this is no longer such a rigid definition as there are many artists who work in craft based disciplines to produce artworks of a creative, aesthetic nature as opposed to having just a practical usage.
Contemporary Art
This term defines work produced now, though museums and galleries that specialise in this area frequently define this as work made since the second world war.
